Deserve Dignity: The Plight of the Roma

In August, 2011 Bonnie and Hans Zimmer traveled to Slovakia for an inside visit to the Roma communities of Eastern Europe.

The Roma have for centuries been one of the most persecuted populations in Europe, discriminated against in housing, education, and jobs. During the trip Zimmer, an Oscar winning composer, worked with the Roma musicians,  some of whom went on to play with him on the soundtrack of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Bonnie had arranged for Hans’ daughter, photographer Zoe Zimmer, to photograph the Roma communities and residents. These photos have now become a traveling exhibit on the Roma, entitled Deserve Dignity.
